New Broom Sweeps Clean

A New Broom Sweeps Clean

She was a new broom
Not a metaphor

He leaned her against
His work van

A red bucket and
An electrical cord

Sat on the pavement
Either side of her

Neither electrical cord
Nor bucket was new

As metaphors they
might be jealous

Of the broom’s
Sex appeal

He washed his hands
Before he swept with her

She would soon lose
Her sparkle

Become yet another
Old broom

That forgets how
to sweep clean
