Color Scheme

Color Scheme

Let me begin with candy
Multicolored and bright

Picture jelly beans,
Skittles, gum drops,
Gummy fruit slices,
Or M&Ms
So long as there are
A rainbow of colors

Let me call them by color,
Not flavor
Although the red may be
Cherry flavor it is
For my purpose: red

Lemon yellow is obvious
As is lime or mint
Blue, purple, orange
Just more colors
Set aside the flavor
Unless you have
Synesthesia

Most people, not all,
Reach in a bowl of candy
Take a few or a handful

Then pop the candy
Into their mouth
With no color scheme
On their mind

Most put one color
After another
At random

Unless you are
A painter or
Otherwise disordered
It matters not

In color class we eat
The primary colors
Before the secondary
During some lessons
Not all

Once I bought
A bag of M&Ms
For each student

With eyes closed
They reached
Into their M&M bag
Blindly selected a color
Then painted using that color

After painting
they rewarded themselves
by eating another candy

This continued until
The bag was empty
The painting
Was then complete.

One student could not
Participate
He was self-compelled
To empty the
Candy onto a tray
And organize the
Colors
Painting and eating
all the red ones first.

Then the orange,
Yellow, green,
Blue
There was no purple
He wept.

Whether eating gummy
Fruit slices or
Deciding which color
To select next

I look to see
What colors are available
And which one my
Eyes beg for

    There’s a reason it’s called rag paper.   For centuries, ragpickers supplied the papermaking industry with cotton and linen. Discarded clothing scraps were the aluminum cans of the past. They provided a livelihood to the unskilled. At the dawn of the Industrial Age, everything changed. A rising bourgeoisie and the success of education lead to increasing demand for printed material. The impact upon paper and the rag   supply chain was unanticipated. Consumption of traditional cotton and linen scraps outstripped supply.   The price of rags rose. When demand for papermaking material exceeded supply, alternate sources were sought.    One long forgotten trove of very, very old rags was rediscovered in the 1800s: linen wrapped Egyptian mummies.
